Lowest Price GENUINE GOVERNMENT AIR FORCE PILOTS SUNGLASSES BY "AMERICAN OPTICS

Over All Rating Reviews :
I had purchased a pair of these specs for myself and then gave a pair to my father for christmas. They are a perfect design. They look great and the build quality is excellent. The materials are great as are the finishes. These AO Aviators are a wonderful classic design that need not be changed and as Aviators go they are as cool as they come.

Other reviewer complaints about not being polarized: true aviator sunglasses are not polarized. Screens on GPSs and many other in-cockpit devices have polarization to reduce glare - hence, if you're wearing polarized sun glasses, the screens appear black.

There are literally thousands of glasses that have polarized lenses. But if you want to fly with them, you're out of luck. Posers - go find some polarized glasses. Pilots - these work.

Pleasantly surprised by the quality of these glasses, though if I purchased again I would not get the bayonet style, they are frequently slipping down the bridge of my nose. Pretty annoying actually, but I suppose its my fault for choosing this style.

Cheap GENUINE GOVERNMENT AIR FORCE PILOTS SUNGLASSES BY "AMERICAN OPTICS

Over All Rating Reviews :
I bought my first pair of American Optical sunglass in 1965 while in the Army. I still have them and they're still going strong. The manufacturer isn't kidding when they say the lens is polished, hardened and optically perfect. My only complaint about the first pair is the lens was a bit small. They improved it with the new glasses and that makes for a perfect pair of sunglasses. You can't go wrong with American Optical. The military has been issuing them to pilots and all other personnel for fifty years. A great value, great service by the shipper, goods arrived in perfect condition.

Where To Buy American Optical AO Original Pilot Aviator Sunglasses 55 mm Matte Chrome Bayonet True Color 30187

Over All Rating Reviews :
I had been looking to buy new sunglasses for a while to replace some cheaper 'designer' ones that I had. The two pairs of designer ones both had plastic lenses, and one even had a chrome covered plastic frame. Most of the cost of them was clearly going into the name on the side.

I saw these sunglasses mentioned in a GQ magazine article. After reading up on the company I realized they were probably pretty decent quality if the military and NASA had been using them. I found it hard to decide between the 'Randolph Engineering' made version and the American Optical ones. Randolph seem to have done a very good job with their PR, getting famous people wearing their brand. In the end it came down to justifying the extra cost, and I decided I would start out with the AO ones and see whether I thought it necessary to upgrade to the RE ones in the future.

When they arrived I was really pleased with them. Just taking them out of the packaging you could tell that they were sturdy and had high quality glass in them. The frames themselves feel stronger than my 'ray ban' eye glasses (which are regular glasses and so are designed to be worn every day). They have some weight to them which I like. The case isn't a full hard case, but it also isn't totally soft. There is a folded piece of hard plastic in it, and this gives some protection to the glasses without the bulk of a full hard case.

Outside I found that they give good light reduction. They're not overly dark compared to some other sunglasses, but I find the level of light reduction about right. The quality of the glass shows again here though - it is like you're not really wearing them they are so clear and undistorted.

When I was ordering these I didn't really know what size to pick or what color. The size seemed important because I've had 'aviator' glasses before that have seemed large on my face (I don't have that round a face, but I am a 6' tall male so I didn't want tiny glasses either). You've probably seems some people wearing rayban style aviators that look large on them - that was what I was concerned about. Well in the end I decided to go with the 55mm ones and I definitely made the right choice. I think this size would suit most people (apart from people with a very small face, or people with a very large round face). If you're unsure then I would order these ones as a first choice.

The color was also difficult to decide. The gold ones seem like the original and therefor 'retro' look. However I never really wear gold because it looks a bit out of date nowadays. In the end I went for silver and again I'm pretty pleased I did. This means that the sunglasses go with everything you could wear rather than just some retro look. In particular I were them when outside at work, and I just don't think the retro gold ones would be appropriate there.

I've had these for a few months now and they were a very good buy. If I ever lost them then I would replace them with exactly the same pair in an instant.

Over All Rating Reviews :
I'm a long time aviator sunglasses wearer. I used to buy Ray-Bans, but I was constantly going through them and the prices kept rising.

These are just as cool looking and half the price. Plus, they're the same sunglasses pilots in the military wear, which I think is cool.

They're also of equal quality as Ray-Bans. I'm not really a fan of plastic sunglasses and these are metal and glass. They're fairly durable, I've dropped them a few times with no real damage, although I haven't really tested hor durable they are.

Basically, they're equally cool looking, equal in quality, but they're cheaper and the fact that the military uses them ups the cool factor slightly in their favor as well.

I'm never going back to Ray-Bans, I'll keep buying these sunglasses.

5 stars.

These are great sunglasses. The optics are really good and the construction is solid. And you can't beat the look. Some may find them a tad on the heavy side due to the use of real glass but I like the solid feel. I was concerned that they aren't polarized but so far it hasn't been an issue. I have a smaller face and have trouble finding a good fit. The American Optical's in the 52mm are perfect for me. The case they come with is nice. Nothing fancy but it does the job. I do wish they came with a cleaning cloth but that's a minor complaint.

i bought a pair of these a few years ago but unfortunately lost them. but what i can say i did love these sunglasses! very long lasting, even after years of abuse they held up great. these arent cheap drug store glasses, mine still looked better than all the cheapies i had that were only a few months old. no peeling on the metal etc., held their shine like brand new. Worth their price, they are a little on the heavy side though, and i had to bend the metal so they would fit my head without falling off, but all in all it was not a big deal. very badass looking too! i would recommend to anyone!

These are the official aviator sunglasses of the United States military. While not the current issue ballistic eye-wear current operations require, these are still the ones sold on base to service members and approved for uniform wear in garrison and light training operations.

These are durable and practical. They provide a conservative look for traditionalists and military collectors and enthusiasts, while the rounded frames offer a trendier look for those seeking a retro look that still meets strict military requirements. (If the gunny doesn't like 'em, tell him "They have an NSN!"). And chances are the Colonel has a pair.

I bought mine to replace my issued Oakley's I destroyed in Iraq. I didn't want to fork over another $100+ and didn't need them for combat operations anymore, so I grabbed a set of these for around $30 in the PX. I've worn them for a year, dropped them, sat on them and worn them on the motorcycle. So far, no scratches to the finish or the lenses.

Be advised that these are NOT ballistic lenses or approved as safety glasses, but they are shatter-resistant, durable and offer full UV protection.

If you're looking for shades that look as good in a suit as they due with jeans and a leather jacket, or just something for uniform wear around the base, it's hard to go wrong with an American classic like the AO Original Aviator.

Crusty Ol' Sergeant

Purchase GENUINE GOVERNMENT AIR FORCE PILOTS SUNGLASSES BY "AMERICAN OPTICS

Over All Rating Reviews :
These supposed "military grade" aviator sunglasses do a poor job of protecting the eyes from the sun, regardless of what mm size you get: 52, 55, and 57 (I tried the 52 and 57 mm lenses before finally returning them to the store).

While for style purposes these aviators might be "cool" or hip, they do not function well. Perhaps you are inspired by watching the USA Network's show "Burn Notice" to look for a cheaper alternative to Oliver People's Victory 55/58, these are not a viable alternative.

The default lens (true color) is not polarized and it shows. Glare from the sun (especially when the sun is high in the sky) enters from the gap between your brow and the glass lenses, hurting the eyes.

The default lens is not dark enough for "normal" sunglass wearing conditions. You know, when it's sunny out?

These aviators also offer no form of wrap around protection from UV rays that enter from the sides of the face, so the damage to your eyes is a double wammy.

I can only assume polarized lenses would do far better in these sunglasses, but I didn't bother to try. The glasses themselves are already high priced considering what little protection they offer, so to get a polarized lens in them tacks on (at some stores) at least another twenty dollars.

The frames themselves are heavy but if you don't mind that you will appreciate the high quality metal ocnstruction. Ultimately, though, these aviators are based on a 60 year old design that is, while retro and cool, not what most folks are used to in a sunglass today.

Better to find a more modern aviator that offers a better fit on the face, a polarized lens and wrap around protection.

They won't return them even if you are within 30 days and haven't worn them. They will make up something like a fingerprint is on the lens, the box is not the original box, or they have been worn or not in new condition. This company is very shady.
